Open and close a register
A register has to be open before anyone can sell on it. Opening records who started the shift and how much cash was in the drawer; closing counts the drawer, compares it with what OLET expected, and ends the session.
Both live on the Register tab of the register app. The tab shows Open register when the till is closed and Close register when it is open, so there is only ever one thing to do there.
Open the register
Section titled “Open the register”- Open the register app and go to Register.
- Count the cash in the drawer and enter it as the opening float. The pad has two tabs: Total if you already know the figure, Breakdown if you would rather tap in how many of each note and coin you are holding.
- Select Open register.
If your store does not take cash, there is no float field at all. The screen says so and you just select Open register.
OLET confirms with Register opened and sends you straight to Sell. If a receipt printer is paired, it prints an opening-float slip and kicks the drawer at the same time.
You have to answer the float, even if the answer is nothing. Selecting Open register with the field untouched marks it and says Enter the opening float. Enter $0.00 if the drawer is empty. An entered $0.00 is a counted empty drawer, which is a real answer. An empty field is not.
Close the register
Section titled “Close the register”- Go to Register. Because the till is open, the screen is now Close register, with the time it was opened and who opened it underneath the heading.
- Count the cash in the drawer and enter it, on Total or Breakdown, the same way you entered the float.
- OLET shows the difference as soon as you have entered a count: Balanced, Over, or Short, with the expected figure beside it.
- Add a Note (optional) if the count needs explaining.
- Select Close register, then confirm.
Counting is required. If the shift took any cash, OLET will not close until you have entered a count. This is deliberate: without it the shift is never reconciled and the difference stays unknown forever. A shift that took only card payments has no count field, and closes straight through.
The confirmation warns you that closing ends the current session and discards any in-progress sale. Take payment or park anything still in a cart first.
What the close report shows
Section titled “What the close report shows”Under the count, Session summary is what OLET expected of the shift:
- Transactions, the number of sales on this session.
- Opening float, the figure you entered when you opened, on a shift that handled cash.
- One row per payment method used, each showing what OLET expects that tender to have taken.
- Expected total, those rows added up.
If cash was paid in or out during the shift, a Cash movements section lists each one with its note, so the expected cash figure is explainable rather than just asserted.
When the register closes, a paired printer prints the Z report for the shift you just ended.
If it goes wrong
Section titled “If it goes wrong”- Register already open. Someone opened this till and did not close it. OLET tells you when it was opened and by whom, then offers two choices. Resume and count picks up the existing session, which is almost always right. Discard without counting throws that session away, so its cash is never reconciled. Only use it when you know nothing was sold.
- Register not found. The device is pointing at a register your store no longer has. It has to be set up again from the back office. See Pair your first register.
- The close was refused and the count looks fine. Check you are signed in as yourself. OLET records who closed the shift and cannot finish without it.
