Change or pause your plan
Every plan change you can make yourself is on Settings > Billing, and none of them delete anything. This article covers choosing a plan, changing how often you are billed, pausing, and switching down to Lite, our free plan.
Choose a plan
Section titled “Choose a plan”You choose a plan from the Billing page, not at signup. During your trial, and on the free plan afterwards, the Your plan section shows two cards side by side: the one you are on, with your live usage against it, and the one you can move up to.
- Go to Settings > Billing.
- In the Your plan section, use the Annual and Monthly switch on the card to pick how often you want to be billed.
- Select the button on the card. It names the plan you are subscribing to.
- You are taken to our payment provider’s checkout. It states the exact total before you enter a card.
- Pay, and you are returned to the Billing page.
The page needs a moment after you pay. It shows “Confirming your payment. This usually takes a few seconds…” while your payment reaches us. There is deliberately nothing to press during that wait. Do not pay again.
If the wait runs long you get a message titled Payment received. It says your payment went through and the plan switch can lag by a few minutes. That message is accurate: the money is taken and nothing more is needed from you. Refresh the page a few minutes later.
If your trial ends without a plan
Section titled “If your trial ends without a plan”If your trial ends and you have not chosen a plan, the store is paused and every screen offers the same two choices: Subscribe to your plan, or Continue on Lite. Your sales, products and customers are kept either way.
Continuing on Lite costs nothing. Confirming it opens a dialog that lists exactly what changes for your store, by name, before you confirm: any features your trial used that Lite does not include, products over Lite’s limit that stay but cannot be edited or added to until you are back under it, and any users over Lite’s limit, who are removed and cannot be brought back; they would have to be created from scratch if you subscribe again.
Switch to Lite during your trial
Section titled “Switch to Lite during your trial”You do not have to wait for the trial to end. While you are on a trial, the Account section has a Switch plan button.
- Go to Settings > Billing.
- In the Account section, select Switch plan.
- Read the “Continue on Lite?” dialog. It lists what changes for your store, the same as the one shown when a trial ends.
- Select Continue on Lite. If users would be removed, the button reads Remove followed by the number, then “and continue on Lite”, and the removal cannot be undone.
You see “You are now on Lite.” and the store moves to Lite straight away. There is nothing to cancel, because a trial has no paid subscription.
Change how often you are billed
Section titled “Change how often you are billed”On an active plan the Your plan section carries a button that names the switch you can make, either to monthly or to annual billing.
- Go to Settings > Billing.
- Select the button offering the other billing frequency.
- Read the quote. It is our payment provider’s own figures, not an estimate of ours.
- Select the switch button in the dialog to confirm.
The two directions behave differently, and the dialog tells you which one you are doing.
- To annual. It takes effect now, and the time left on your current period is applied against it.
- To monthly. It is scheduled for the end of the period you have already paid for. Nothing is charged that day, and you keep everything you paid for until then.
While a switch is scheduled, a Billing row appears in your plan facts naming the change and the date it lands. The button beside it changes to one that keeps what you are on today, which is how you undo a scheduled switch.
Pause your store
Section titled “Pause your store”Pausing stops billing without giving up your plan. It is the option to reach for when you close for a season rather than for good. It only shows up on an active paid plan.
- Go to Settings > Billing.
- In the Account section, select Pause plan.
- Read the dialog, then select Pause my store.
While you are paused, the store is closed. Registers cannot sell and the back office is unavailable, and everyone in your team sees a screen saying the store is paused. Nothing is deleted and everything is exactly as you left it when you come back.
- Billing stops immediately, and nothing is charged while you are paused.
- Your renewal moves out by however many days you take, so you lose none of what you have paid for.
- A pause runs up to 30 days and reopens on its own, on a date the dialog and the paused screen both name.
- You can resume sooner at any time, and resuming costs nothing.
- Pausing is available once a year.
To come back early, select Resume now on the paused screen, or open Billing and select the resume button. The store opens straight away.
Switch to the free plan
Section titled “Switch to the free plan”This is what canceling a paid plan is called on the page: you keep trading, just on Lite (our free plan) instead.
- Go to Settings > Billing.
- In the Account section, select Switch plan.
- Read the “Switch your plan?” dialog. It shows the date your plan stays active until, a Need a break? tile offering to pause instead, and a plan comparison specific to your store, with anything you are over on Lite shown in red.
- Select Switch to Lite plan.
Your plan stays active until the end of the period you have paid for, and the dialog names that date. Nothing changes before then, and you can keep your plan at any point up to it by selecting Keep my plan on the Billing page.
The dialog’s Need a break? tile offers Pause plan, in one click, if a break rather than an exit is what you are after.
What switching to Lite does to your store
Section titled “What switching to Lite does to your store”After the date passes, the store moves down to Lite. Nothing is deleted, and the dialog counts up what actually changes for you before you confirm:
- Features your plan had that the free plan does not. Anything you set up inside them stays as it is and comes back if you subscribe again.
- Products over the free plan’s limit. They stay and stay sellable. You cannot edit them, or add more, until you are back under the limit.
- Users over the free plan’s limit. These are listed by name, and removing them cannot be undone. If you subscribe again later, those people must be created from scratch.
Sales, products, customers, and settings are all untouched either way.
If it goes wrong
Section titled “If it goes wrong”- Your store did not pause, with a date in the message. Pausing is available once a year and the message names the day it comes round again.
- This subscription has already ended. Subscribe again to continue. The date passed while the page was open.
- Your account changed while this page was open, so it has been refreshed. Try again. Somebody else changed the plan from another browser.
- That did not go through. Try again, or email support@getolet.com if it keeps happening.
