Promotions and vouchers on the register

A promotion is a rule your store sets up once in the back office and the register then applies on its own. Some run automatically for everyone. Others only apply when a customer hands over a voucher code.

This feature depends on your plan. Check Settings > Billing to see what your plan includes.

Automatic promotions need nothing from you

Section titled “Automatic promotions need nothing from you”

Add the products and the promotion applies as soon as the cart qualifies. There is no button to press and no permission to hold, so a cashier who cannot discount anything by hand still gets every promotion the store is running.

If a promotion did not apply, the cart did not meet its conditions. That is set in the back office under Catalog > Promotions, along with which outlets and which customer groups it runs for.

If the cart is close to qualifying for a promotion, a banner appears above the cart naming what is still needed, for example “Add 2 more items to unlock ‘Weekend deal’” or “Spend $10.00 more to unlock ‘Weekend deal’”. It is purely informational: nothing in the cart changes because of it, and you can dismiss it with the cross.

  1. Select Promo code below the cart. It is grayed out while the cart is empty.
  2. Scan the code, or type it in and press enter.
  3. The code appears above the field as a chip. Add as many as the customer has.
  4. Select Apply.

Scanning works inside this dialog specifically. Scan a coupon anywhere else on the sell screen and OLET looks it up as a product barcode instead, so open this dialog first.

To take a code back off, tap its chip. Whatever is still typed in the field when you select Apply counts as entered, so you do not lose a code you typed but did not press enter on.

Codes are not case sensitive. OLET normalizes what you type before it looks it up.

On the line, the original price is struck through and the new price sits beside it. The promotion’s name is printed underneath, so you can tell a customer exactly which offer took the money off.

A promotion that applies to the whole sale rather than to one item cannot sit on a line, so it appears in the totals box as a Promotions row with the offer names on it.

A line reads the same way whether a rule or a person took the money off. That is deliberate. A customer querying an item sees one price on the shelf and one price on the screen, and they match.

Your receipt settings decide whether the promotion is named on the printed receipt or just labeled as a promotion. The amount is always shown either way.

OLET cannot refuse an unknown code outright. A code that applies nothing produces exactly the same full-price cart as no code at all, so a typo would otherwise look identical to a working code.

Instead, the register tells you. Enter a code it does not recognize and a message names the code and says no discount was applied. Read it before you tell the customer their voucher failed, because it also fires on a code that is real but expired for this cart.

The Promo code action is on the return screen too, and it prices the exchange items you add there, the same way it prices a sale. The lines being returned keep what the customer originally paid.

  • The code is already applied. OLET says so rather than silently ignoring the second scan. Nothing is wrong.
  • The code was not recognised. Check the spelling, then check with a manager whether the promotion is still running and whether it covers this outlet.
  • The promotion applied but the amount looks small. An offer that spreads across the whole sale is shown in the totals box, not on the lines. Check there before assuming it under-applied.
  • A line you discounted by hand did not get the promotion. Once you pin a line’s price yourself, the promotion no longer applies to it. Take your discount off if you want the promotion instead.

Read Discounts and price overrides for the discounts you apply yourself.
