When a receipt does not print

Start with Test print in Settings > Devices > Receipt printer. It tells you in one step whether the problem is the printer or the receipt.

Work down this list.

  1. Is the printer on, with paper, and the lid shut? Check the printer’s own status light before anything in OLET.
  2. Does Test print work? If it does, the printer is fine and the problem is with the sale or the setting. Check that Auto-print receipt on sale is on, or print by hand with Reprint on the confirmation panel.
  3. Does the status menu say Printer offline? Open the status menu in the app header and select Reconnect on that row.
  4. Is it a Bluetooth printer that has dropped out of iOS? Open the iOS Settings app, go to Bluetooth, and check the printer is still paired and connected there. OLET cannot reach a printer iOS has lost.
  5. Is it a network printer that has moved? Printers handed an address by the router can be given a different one after a power cut. Open the printer dialog, select Network, and pair it again, or give the printer a fixed address on your router.

The receipt printed but the barcode is missing

Section titled “The receipt printed but the barcode is missing”

This is the first thing to check on a receipt or a gift card slip that came out looking incomplete.

A barcode that is wider than the paper does not get cut off. The printer refuses to print it at all and says nothing, so you get a receipt with a blank space where the barcode should be. Everything else on the paper is unaffected.

It comes down to how many characters are being encoded. A long gift card code or a long receipt reference will not fit across 80mm paper at a width a handheld scanner can still read, and OLET would rather print no barcode than one nothing can scan. The code itself is still printed as text underneath, so the slip is still usable by typing the number in.

If you need the barcode, shorten what is encoded. On a gift card, that means a shorter code format.

Anything decorative is allowed to fail on its own without taking the receipt with it. If your store logo will not decode, or the barcode will not encode, that piece is skipped and the rest of the receipt still prints. A customer holding a receipt with no logo still has a receipt.

So a receipt missing only its logo usually means the logo image itself is the problem. Replace it in the back office under Settings > Receipts.

  • Text that should be centered sits to the left. OLET centers text by padding it with spaces, which lines up on 80mm paper. On narrower paper the padding is wrong and everything shifts. OLET’s receipts are built for 80mm.
  • Lines wrap oddly. A long footer message wraps to the paper width. Shorten it under Settings > Receipts.
  1. Is a printer paired? The drawer opens from the printer. No printer means no drawer, and OLET will say No printer.
  2. Is the kick pin right? Switch Drawer kick pin between Pin 2 and Pin 5 and try again. There is no way to detect which one your drawer uses.
  3. Does it open by hand? Use Open cash drawer under More actions on the sell screen. If that opens it but a cash sale does not, turn on Open cash drawer on cash sales.
  4. Is the cable seated? The kick cable runs from the drawer into the printer, not into the tablet.
  • No printer configured. Nothing is paired to this register.
  • Bluetooth is off for OLET. Turn it on in Settings to find printers. iOS Bluetooth access for OLET is switched off, so the printer cannot be found. Select Open settings under the message and turn Bluetooth on for OLET.
  • Could not connect to the printer. Paired, but out of reach right now.
  • Print failed. OLET reached the printer and the print did not complete. Check the paper and the lid.
  • Paired but not connected. Receipts will not print. The printer has dropped out. Select Reconnect on that row in the status menu.
