Add a customer to a sale

Attaching a customer ties the sale to a person. Do it before you take payment and it also changes what the sale costs, because a customer’s group is what the cart prices against.

The customer bar sits above the cart on the sell screen.

  1. Type a phone number, an email address, or a customer code into the search field above the cart.
  2. Select them from the results.

The bar becomes a single row showing their name, their customer group as a tag beside it, and their customer code or phone underneath. The cart reprices immediately if their group has its own prices.

Two icons sit on the right of that row. The pencil edits the customer, and the cross takes them off the sale. They are deliberately different icons, because hitting the wrong one mid-sale loses the attachment.

Add a customer who is not in your list yet

Section titled “Add a customer who is not in your list yet”

Select Add customer, which is beside the search field and also offered when a search returns No customer found. Fill in the Basic tab: First name, Phone and Email are required, everything else is optional. Select Create and they are attached to the sale straight away.

The Details tab is where you set their Customer group, which is what prices the cart. The customer code is generated for you on a new customer.

Marketing consent lives on the Settings tab. You can set it if your role can create and edit customers. You don’t need a manager to sign in.

Add customer and the pencil only appear if your role can create and edit customers. If your role can’t view customers, the search field is grayed out and reads “You don’t have permission to view customers.” A customer already on the sale still shows, and you can still take them off.

  • Pricing. The customer’s group can carry its own prices, and the cart totals against the group as soon as the customer is attached. Attach them before you build the cart, not after.
  • Their history. The sale is filed against them, so it can be found later by looking them up rather than by hunting through a day of receipts.
  • Emailed receipts. A sale with a customer on it can be emailed to them in one tap on the payment screen.

If you forget, the confirmation panel after payment has its own Customer section. Search there and the finished sale is attached to them. Do note that this happens after the cart has been totaled, so it does not reprice anything. Group pricing only applies when the customer is on the sale before you take payment.

  • No customer found. The search matches on phone, email, and customer code, not on name. Try their phone number, or select Add customer and create them.
  • The customer disappeared from a retrieved sale. Parking a sale keeps its lines but not its customer. Attach them again after you retrieve it. See Make a sale.
  • The price did not change when you attached them. Check the group tag beside their name is the group you expect. A customer in no group, or in a group with no prices of its own, pays the ordinary price.
