# Cash management

Record cash going into or out of the drawer during a shift, so the count at close reconciles instead of coming up short

Cash moves in and out of a drawer for reasons that are not sales: a safe drop, a delivery paid in cash, a float top-up. **Cash Management** is where you record those, so the drawer still adds up at the end of the shift.

Open it from the menu. It is there for anyone whose role includes recording cash movements.

## What the screen shows

**Cash balance** at the top is what OLET expects to be in the drawer right now. Underneath it, on an open register, is what the shift opened with and who opened it.

Below that is every cash movement on this shift, with the time, who recorded it, whether it was in or out, the note, and the amount.

If the register is closed, a **Register closed** tag replaces the opening line and you cannot record anything. Open the register first. See [Open and close a register](/resources/help/selling/open-and-close-a-register/).

## Record a movement

1. Select **Cash movement**.
2. Choose **Cash in** or **Cash out** under **Direction**.
3. Type the figure into **Amount ($)**.
4. Choose a **Category**: **Safe drop**, **Petty cash**, **Float adjustment**, or **Other**.
5. Write a **Note (optional)**. Write one anyway. It is the only record of why the money moved.
6. Select **Save**.

The balance at the top moves immediately and the movement joins the list.

## Why you record it

At close, OLET works out what should be in the drawer: the opening float, plus the cash sales, minus the cash refunds, plus and minus everything recorded here. You count the drawer and OLET compares the two.

A movement you did not record does not make the money reappear. It makes the drawer look short by exactly that amount, and the shift closes on a difference nobody can explain later. The note is what turns "we are $200 down" into "the safe drop at 4pm".

The close report lists the movements alongside the expected figure for exactly this reason.

## Print an X-report

**Print X-report** prints a mid-shift summary on the paired receipt printer, without closing anything. Use it when you want a paper snapshot of where the till stands. The button only appears while the register is open and a printer is paired.

## If it goes wrong

- **Register is closed.** The shift ended between opening this screen and saving. Open the register again, then record the movement.
- **Enter an amount greater than $0.00.** The amount box is empty or zero.
- **Choose what this movement is for.** No category was selected. Pick **Other** if none of the rest fits, and explain it in the note.
- **Cash Management is not in your menu.** Your role does not include recording cash movements. Ask a manager.
- **Could not print X-report.** The summary is unaffected, only the print failed. Check the printer and try again. See [**Hardware > Receipt printers**](/resources/help/hardware/receipt-printers/).

## Where to go next

Read [Open and close a register](/resources/help/selling/open-and-close-a-register/) for how these movements land in the close count.
