Pair a thermal receipt printer to a register over Bluetooth or your network, print a test receipt, and set up the cash drawer

A receipt printer belongs to a register, not to a tablet. Pair it once and every device signed in to that register prints to it.

## Before you start

Decide how the printer will connect.

- **Bluetooth.** Pair the printer in the iOS **Settings** app, under **Bluetooth**, before you open OLET. OLET can only find a printer iOS has already paired.
- **Network.** Put the printer on the same network as the tablet. Nothing to do in advance.

## Pair the printer

1. In the register app, open **Settings**.
2. Under **Devices**, select **Receipt printer**.
3. Select **Bluetooth** or **Network**. The button says **Scanning…** while it looks.
4. Select your printer from the list that appears.

A network scan checks every address on your local network for a printer, so give it a moment. If yours does not turn up, select **Enter IP manually**, type the printer's address into **Printer IP address**, and select **Add network printer**. OLET uses port 9100 unless you type a different one after a colon.

Once paired, the printer is listed with **Connected** or **Paired, not connected** under its name.

## Print a test receipt

Select **Test print**. A success message says **Test receipt sent**.

This is the only thing that proves the setup works, so do it before the first customer rather than after. If nothing comes out, go to [When a receipt does not print](/resources/help/hardware/printing-problems/).

## Print receipts automatically

Turn on **Auto-print receipt on sale** and a receipt prints as each sale completes.

This setting belongs to the register, not to the tablet you changed it on, so every device signed in to that register follows it. That is deliberate: two tablets on one counter disagreeing about whether a customer gets a receipt is worse than either answer.

You can always print by hand instead. After a sale, the confirmation panel has **Reprint**, and **More actions** on the sell screen has **Print last receipt**.

## Set up the cash drawer

The drawer opens from the printer, so pair the printer first.

1. Turn on **Open cash drawer on cash sales**.
2. Choose **Pin 2** or **Pin 5** under **Drawer kick pin**.

The pin is how your drawer's cable is wired. There is no way to detect it, so if the drawer stays shut, switch to the other pin and try again.

With the switch on, the drawer pops as a cash sale prints. To open it at any other time, use **Open cash drawer** under **More actions** on the sell screen. That works whenever a printer is paired, whether or not the switch is on.

## Change or remove the printer

Open the same dialog and select **Unpair**. The register then has no printer until you pair another, and receipts stop printing.

## If it goes wrong

- **No printer configured.** Nothing is paired to this register. Pair one in **Settings > Devices > Receipt printer**.
- **Could not connect to the printer.** The printer is paired but OLET cannot reach it. Check it is switched on and in range, then open the status menu in the app header and select **Reconnect** on the **Printer offline** row.
- **Bluetooth is off for OLET. Turn it on in Settings to find printers.** You said no to the Bluetooth prompt. Select **Open settings** under the message and turn Bluetooth on for OLET, then scan again.
- **No printers found.** For Bluetooth, the printer is not paired in the iOS **Settings** app yet. For network, the printer is on a different network from the tablet, or is not set to accept raw printing.
