The setup guide is a short checklist inside the back office that takes a new store from empty to its first real sale. It is the quickest way to get going, and it covers the same ground as [the setup checklist](/resources/help/getting-started/set-up-your-store-checklist/) with the screens built in.

## Where to find it

When an admin or a manager opens OLET and the store has not made a sale yet, the back office opens on the guide, titled **Welcome to Olet**. If you go somewhere else, a **Set up my store** button stays at the top of every page, and on a narrow screen it becomes a checklist icon with the same name. It disappears once every step you can see is done. The practice till has a **Set up my store** button on its payment screen too.

The guide shows your progress, such as "1 of 4", with a bar under it. Each step is a row you can open. Only one is open at a time, and when you finish one, the next unfinished step opens for you. A step with a check mark is done. You can reopen a finished step at any time.

Managers see the same guide without the first step, **Your store**, which only admins can complete.

## Step 1: Your store

This step sets where your store is and what sales tax it charges. Admins only.

1. Fill in **Address line 1**, **City**, **State**, and **ZIP code**. **Address line 2** is optional.
2. Enter your **Sales tax rate (%)**, such as `8.25`. Use up to two decimals. If you aren't sure of your rate, your state's revenue department lists it.
3. If your state has no sales tax, tick **My state has no sales tax** instead.
4. Select **Save**.

OLET saves the address on your first outlet and creates a tax rate called "Sales tax", which becomes that outlet's default. If you already have a rate with the same percentage, it uses that one. You can add more rates later in [Sales tax](/resources/help/setup/sales-tax/), and change the address in [Outlets and registers](/resources/help/setup/outlets-and-registers/).

If something is missing, the field says what to fix, for example "Enter your address" or "Enter a rate between 0 and 100."

## Step 2: Get the app and pair it

First install the OLET register app on the iPad, iPhone, or Android device you'll sell on. When the store listings are live, this step shows an **App Store** and a **Google Play** button, each with a QR code you can scan. Until then it tells you the app is coming.

Then pair the device:

1. Select **Show pairing code**.
2. On the device, open the app. A new install opens on **Set up this register**. Type the code or scan the QR code.

The code lasts 15 minutes. If it runs out, select **Regenerate** in the dialog. If a code is already waiting for this register, the button reads **Show a new code** instead. The guide pairs the first register in your first outlet, and names the device "Register 1". To pair more devices, or name them yourself, use [Settings > Devices](/resources/help/setup/devices/).

When the device is paired the step says "Your device is paired." If a device was already paired to the register, you see "Already paired" and the step completes in a moment. The full details are in [Pair your first register](/resources/help/getting-started/pair-your-first-register/).

## Step 3: Make your first sale

The guide lists what to do on the device:

1. Sign in on your device with your email. OLET sends you a code. See [Sign in and switch users](/resources/help/getting-started/sign-in-and-user-switching/).
2. Open the register. You can start with $0 in the drawer.
3. Sell any product and take cash.
4. Want it to be your own product? Rename one or change its price first.

The step waits with "Waiting for your first sale…" and updates on its own. When the sale lands, the guide shows "You made your first sale!" with the time, in your store's time zone.

You don't have a device yet? Select **Not ready? Try a sale first** under the guide. It opens the practice till at **Orders > Sell**, which never records a real sale. That link goes away after your first real sale, once you pair a register, or once you delete the sample data.

## Step 4: Bring in your products

Pick the way that suits you:

- **Import your products** takes you to the CSV import, if your role is allowed to import. See [Import products from a CSV](/resources/help/catalog/import-products-from-a-csv/).
- **Add a product** opens a blank product so you can add them one at a time.
- **Book a setup call** opens a booking page in a new tab.

When you finish an import started from the guide, you come back to the guide.

## Delete the sample data

Your store starts with sample products, customers, and a promotion, so every screen has something in it. After your first sale, admins see a line under the steps: "Remove the sample products, customers and promotion so only your own data is left." Select **Delete sample data** and confirm in **Delete sample data?**.

This removes only the demo data your store started with: sample products, categories, customers, the VIP customer group, its price book, and its promotion. Nothing you created is touched, and your tax rates, outlet, registers, staff, receipt templates, and payment types stay.

When every step is done, the guide says "Your store is set up."

## If it goes wrong

- **The guide says "Setup steps couldn't load. Try again."** Select **Try again**. The rest of the back office still works.
- **The pairing step says "Unable to pair".** The message under it says why. Try **Show pairing code** again.
- **You are a cashier.** Cashiers don't have a back office, so they don't see the guide.
