The back office walks you through the first steps in [the setup guide](/resources/help/getting-started/setup-guide/). This page is the same list written out, with the extras the guide leaves for later. Everything below can be done in any order, but this one saves the most rework. Prices depend on tax, quick keys depend on products, and a register cannot be paired until the outlet it belongs to exists.

## The order

The **Settings** menu in the sidebar shows **General**, **Outlets and registers**, **User management**, and **Billing**. Every other settings page, such as **Sales tax**, **Devices**, or **Receipts**, is under **Settings > More settings**, where you can also search for it.

1. **Create your store.** Sign up, choose the email you will sign in with, and look around. Note your Store ID in **Settings > General**, because you type it to sign in. See [Create your store](/resources/help/getting-started/create-your-store/).
2. **Set your store details and tax.** Your store name, currency, time zone, logo, and contact details live in [**Settings > General**](/resources/help/setup/olet-general-settings/). Your tax rates live in [**Settings > Sales tax**](/resources/help/setup/sales-tax/). Do this before you price anything. OLET adds tax on top of the prices you set.
3. **Add your products.** Build your catalog in [**Catalog > Products**](/resources/help/catalog/products-overview/), one at a time or by importing a spreadsheet. Categories, brands, and suppliers are worth setting up first if you already know what they are.
4. **Add your team.** Invite the people who will use OLET and give each of them a role. See [Add your team](/resources/help/getting-started/add-your-team/).
5. **Create an outlet and a register.** An outlet is a shop. A register is a till inside it. Both are set up in [**Settings > Outlets and registers**](/resources/help/setup/outlets-and-registers/).
6. **Pair the register.** Provision the device in [**Settings > Devices**](/resources/help/setup/devices/), then enter the pairing code on the iPad or iPhone. See [Pair your first register](/resources/help/getting-started/pair-your-first-register/).
7. **Take a test sale.** Sign in on the register, ring up one product, take payment in cash, and check that it shows up in [**Orders > Sales history**](/resources/help/selling/sales-history-and-receipts/). That one sale proves the whole chain works before a customer is standing there.

## After the checklist

Once you are selling, the things most stores set up next are a receipt printer and a barcode scanner, the receipt design in [**Settings > Receipts**](/resources/help/setup/receipt-settings/), and a card reader in [**Settings > Payment settings**](/resources/help/payments/payment-types-overview/). None of them block your first sale, so leave them until the basics are working.
