# Export your products

Download your catalog as a CSV, including a stock column for every outlet, and know what it can and cannot be used for

The export writes your catalog to a CSV file: one row per product, one column per field, plus a stock column for every outlet you run.

Go to [**Catalog > Products**](/resources/help/catalog/products-overview/) and select **Export** above the table.

## Export part of your catalog

The export takes whatever filters the list currently has. Filter to one brand, one supplier, one category, or one status first, and you get a file of exactly those products rather than everything. No filters means the whole catalog.

Gift cards are never in this file. They are managed under [**Catalog > Gift cards**](/resources/help/catalog/gift-cards/).

## Collecting the file

The export runs in the background, so a large catalog does not tie up your screen. OLET confirms it has started, and the file itself is waiting under [**Settings > Activity**](/resources/help/setup/olet-activity-log/): find the **export.products** run and select the download icon on its row.

The file downloads as a ZIP with the CSV inside. Unzip it before you open it in a spreadsheet. Exports are kept for 30 days, so download anything you want to keep.

## What is in the file

The columns follow the product record: `id`, `sku`, `name`, `description`, `type`, supply and retail price, the account codes, `has_inventory`, `active`, weight and dimensions, the image URL, one column per code type such as `upc` and `ean`, then `brand_name`, `supplier_name`, `supplier_code`, `tags`, `category`, `components`, `created_at` and `updated_at`, then the variant columns, then the per-outlet stock columns.

A field with no value is exported as an empty cell, never as a placeholder word.

`category` is the full path with spaces around the slashes, for example `Apparel / Tops / Shirts`. `tags` is comma separated in one cell.

The `type` column uses the same words as the Type column on the product list: `standard`, `variant parent`, `variant` and `composite`.

Variant families are kept together: a parent row is followed immediately by its own variants, and each variant row names its parent's SKU and its own option values.

## The per-outlet stock columns

Every live outlet gets a pair of columns at the end of the row: `<outlet>.qty` holds what is on hand there, and `<outlet>.qty.adjustment_type` is blank in an export. The second column exists so the same file can be used to change stock on the way back in. See [Import products from a CSV](/resources/help/catalog/import-products-from-a-csv/).

Inactive outlets get their columns too, so nothing quietly disappears from the file.

**The column name is built from the outlet's name and nothing more.** Rename an outlet and the column name changes with it, which means a saved file, a formula, or a script that keys on the old column name silently stops matching. Always work from a fresh export.

## What this file is good for

Bulk edits to standard products. Export, change prices or names or stock in a spreadsheet, import the file back. See [Import products from a CSV](/resources/help/catalog/import-products-from-a-csv/).

**It is not a backup.** It holds products, not your sales, customers or settings, and images are listed by address rather than included. Variant families do round trip, but a variant's option values and a parent's option names cannot be changed by import, so edit those on the product. See [Product variants](/resources/help/catalog/product-variants/).

## If it goes wrong

- **The export failed.** Nothing was written. Start it again from the same page.
- **The download link does nothing.** The file has passed its 30 days. Run the export again.
- **A column you expected is missing.** Check the filters on the product list before you exported, and check whether the outlet you are looking for was renamed.

## What next

- Put the edited file back: [Import products from a CSV](/resources/help/catalog/import-products-from-a-csv/). If you would rather start from an empty sheet, the **Import** menu on the product list offers a template.
