# Register report

The **Register report** lists every register session: who opened it, who closed it, and whether the cash in the drawer matched what the system expected. Use it to spot cash that is short or over, and to reprint a closing report. Open **Analytics**, then **Register report**.

A session is one shift on one register, from opening it to closing it. See [Open and close a register](/resources/help/selling/open-and-close-a-register/) and [Cash management](/resources/help/selling/cash-management/).

## Filters

- **Date range**: opens on yesterday. A session is listed if it was open at any point in the range, using your store's time zone. A shift that runs past midnight shows up for both days.
- **Outlets**.
- **Registers**: only registers at the outlets you picked, or all of them.
- **Users**: people who opened or closed a session in the range.

This report has no **Group by** or **Compare to**. Select **Apply** after changing a filter.

## Cards

| Card | What it shows |
| --- | --- |
| **Cash short** | The total cash missing across sessions in the range that have a cash count, as a negative amount. It turns red when there is any. |
| **Cash over** | The total cash found over expected, across the same sessions. |
| **Sessions with a variance** | How many sessions had a cash difference, with "Previous period" and a count underneath, so you can see if it's getting better. |
| **Registers open** | Registers open right now at the outlets and registers you filtered. The dates and users don't change it. |

## The table

The newest session comes first. Select a heading with a sort arrow to reorder.

| Column | What it means |
| --- | --- |
| **Register** | The register, with its outlet under it. |
| **Opened** | When it opened, in your store's time, and who opened it. |
| **Closed** | When it closed and who closed it. A dash while it's still open. |
| **Duration** | Hours and minutes between opening and closing. |
| **Opening float** | The cash in the drawer at the start. |
| **Expected cash** | What the drawer should hold when it was counted: the float, plus cash sales, minus cash refunds, plus cash put in, minus cash taken out. A dash until a cash count is recorded. |
| **Counted / variance** | The cash counted at close, and under it the difference from expected. Red means short, green means over. |

Counted cash and variance appear only for sessions where a cash count was entered at close. Other sessions show a dash.

## Session detail

Select the chevron on a row to open its detail.

- **Cash**: **Opening float**, **Cash sales**, **Cash refunds**, **Cash in**, **Cash out**, **Expected**, **Counted** and **Variance**.
- **Other payments**: each non-cash payment type, with its sales, refunds and net.
- **Cash movements**: each time cash went in or out, marked "In" or "Out" with its type (Safe drop, Petty cash, Float adjustment or Other), the amount, who did it, when, and any note.

A closed session shows its final figures. An open session shows its figures so far. If the person closing chose to discard the count, the row says "Count discarded by" that person, with the time. A discarded session has no cash detail.

## Print a closing report

On a closed session, select the printer button (**Print closing report**). A **Closing report** window opens with a preview headed "Z-REPORT" and "(End of shift)". It has these parts:

- the register, who opened and closed it, and when
- **Sales**: transactions, gross sales, refunds and net sales
- **Tender**: each payment type, with counted amount and whether it's balanced, over or short
- **Cash drawer**: opening float, paid in, paid out, and each cash movement
- **Closing count**: the cash counted by denomination

Select **Print** to print it, or **Close** to leave. The report uses your store's business details at the top.

## Export CSV

**Export CSV** saves register-report with the dates as the file name. Each session is a line with: **Outlet**, **Register**, **Status** (Open, Closed or Discarded), **Opened at**, **Opened by**, **Closed at**, **Closed by**, **Duration (minutes)**, **Opening float**, **Expected cash**, **Counted cash** and **Variance**. Times are in your store's time zone, written like 2026-03-14 18:05. Sessions come out in the report's order.

## If the numbers look wrong

- **A session is missing.** It must have been open at some point in the range. Check the dates, outlets and registers.
- **Variance is blank.** No cash count was entered when the session closed, or the count was discarded.
- **Expected cash looks off.** Check the cash movements in the session detail. Cash paid in or out during the shift changes what's expected.
- **The cards and table don't match.** **Cash short**, **Cash over** and **Sessions with a variance** count only sessions with a recorded cash count. **Registers open** counts what is open right now.
