**What you're using** on [**Settings > Billing**](/resources/help/account-and-billing/your-plan-and-what-it-includes/) is the honest account of what your store is being charged for. Four tiles: users, outlets, registers, and products. This article explains what each one counts and when counting turns into a charge.

## What is counted

- **Users.** Every user account in your store, whatever their role. See [Users and roles](/resources/help/setup/users-and-roles/).
- **Outlets.** Every outlet you have. See [Outlets and registers](/resources/help/setup/outlets-and-registers/).
- **Registers.** Every register you have created, across all your outlets.
- **Products.** Every product in your catalog. See [Products overview](/resources/help/catalog/products-overview/).

Under each tile is a line naming what your plan includes and, where you have bought more, how many you are paying for and the date they run to.

## An outlet is charged beyond what your plan includes

Your plan includes a number of outlets. The ones inside that number cost nothing extra. Each outlet beyond it is added to your bill.

## A register is charged from the moment you create it

**A register starts counting the day you create it, not the day it first takes a sale.** A register set up for a stand you have not opened yet is a register, as far as your bill is concerned. If you are creating registers to try something out, delete the ones you do not need.

## The register allowance is pooled across your outlets

Your plan includes a number of registers per outlet, but that is not a per outlet cap. **The allowance is added up across the outlets you are paying for, and you spend it wherever you like.**

So if your plan includes one register for each outlet and you pay for two outlets, you have two registers to place. Two shops with one each, or one shop with two and the other with none, both fit inside the allowance and neither costs more.

An outlet you are paying for brings its register with it whether or not that outlet exists yet, so you can add the register first.

## Removing something does not refund it

**When you delete an outlet or a register, the slot stays yours until the end of the period you have paid for.** There is no refund and no credit, and the line under the tile names the date those paid slots run to.

That is worth reading before you delete anything, because it also means adding one back before that date costs nothing. You already own the slot.

## A short delay before your bill catches up

Adding an outlet or a register tells our payment provider on a schedule rather than instantly, and that can take up to about fifteen minutes.

During that window the tile shows what you have and the line below it says how many are being added to your bill. Both are true. Nothing is missing and there is nothing for you to do.

## Users are a limit, not a charge

**A user account is a seat, whether or not that person has ever signed in.** An invitation that has been sent and not accepted still holds a seat, which is what stops five invited admins quietly costing nothing. Removing the user is what frees the seat.

If your store goes over the user limit your plan includes, Billing tells you so, names how many are over, and gives you a date. Fix it by that date, either by moving to a plan that covers everyone or by choosing who to remove, and nothing happens. Miss it and the registers and the back office lock until you are back inside the limit.

**Choose who to remove** on that message opens a list of exactly who would go, by name. Removing them cannot be undone. If you subscribe to a bigger plan later, those people must be created from scratch.

If you are also over your plan's outlet or register allowance, the same dialog adds a section listing your outlets, with their registers indented underneath. Ticking an outlet keeps its registers with it and removes both together; a register with an open till, or the one outlet you would otherwise have none left of, cannot be selected. Nothing here is required: the seats-only removal works with none of it ticked.

If an outlet you picked cannot be removed yet, because it is linked to an online store location, has open purchase orders, or has a transfer in transit, the dialog stays open with your selection intact and adds: "Delete this outlet from Settings, Outlets, where you can choose what happens to it, then try again."

## Adding an outlet or a register

On a trial, and on the free plan, a tile you are at the limit of carries an **Add an outlet** or **Add a register** button. It takes you to checkout with that unit already in the basket, and the checkout states the exact total before you enter a card.

On a paid plan there is no button here. You create the outlet or the register on its own page, as normal, and it is added to your bill from that moment. See [Outlets and registers](/resources/help/setup/outlets-and-registers/).

If creating one asks you to subscribe instead of just working, you are at the allowance your current plan includes. See [Change or pause your plan](/resources/help/account-and-billing/change-or-pause-your-plan/).

## If it goes wrong

- **A tile says you have more than your plan includes.** That is a statement, not an error. Read the line underneath: it tells you what is included and what you are paying for on top.
- **You deleted a register and the count did not drop.** It can take a few minutes, and the paid slot stays yours until the date the line names in any case.
- **You are told to subscribe to add an outlet or a register.** Your current plan's allowance is full. See [Your plan and what it includes](/resources/help/account-and-billing/your-plan-and-what-it-includes/).
